Uranus in Gemini: The Big Picture for the US
Great Conjunctions, Neptune, Pluto and the Uranus myth
The Uranus ingress into Gemini has been the source of great prophetic handwringing for years among astrologers. Many prognosticators anticipate a major conflict, perhaps even an existential crisis, in the near future for the US based largely on this planetary movement.
Uranus was in Gemini at the time of the founding of the US- it is in the nation’s chart. It was in Gemini during the Civil War, and it was entering Gemini when the US became fully engaged in World War II. Extremely important events in US history have coincided with Uranus’ time in Gemini: this cannot be ignored, and had been noticed by astrologers even prior to the Civil War.
Uranus is a slow moving outer planet, and it spends about 7 years in each sign as it passes through them. If similar events happen within that 7 year window repeatedly, and those events do not occur otherwise, this would be significant, but any and all factors that could be influencing this trend should be examined in order to get a big picture of what may be going on.
The US was born out of a revolution, so the concepts of freedom and violent struggle have been closely linked from the inception of the country. Freedom seems to be a key word for Uranus, but we shall see even that is tenuous. The word Uranus refers to the mythological deity, but the word simply means sky or heavens (day or night), contrasted to Gaia, who is a goddess, but Gaia also simply means earth.
The myth of Gaia and Uranus can only be understood properly as the story of a Sky God whose semen was said to rain down on the Earth, Gaia, inseminating her. This basic mythology is the most basic and primordial conception of how our cosmos works. Uranus was castrated by his son, Saturn, at the behest of Gaia, when Uranus cast out the Giants to Hell or Tartarus. Uranus then became the Wounded King, and Saturn ruled over a Golden Age.
Saturn always serves and points back to the Great Goddess.
The Sky may connote freedom, in some sense, for Icarus or others who wish to fly, but the myth of Uranus is the story of justice, betrayal, castration and usurpation of power- and on a deeper level, the Uranus myth represents a ritualized event of dynastic succession. We will put that aside for now and look at it in a more conventional context.
We can say that freedom sometimes requires a violent usurpation of power. Violence does not necessarily jibe with Uranus, but it has always followed Mars. And, on a more esoteric level, Mars is profoundly associated with the Birth Event.
GREAT CONJUNCTIONS OF THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR ERA
The US was born in the Fire era, during the 200 year period of Jupiter/ Saturn conjunctions, aka Great Conjunctions, in the Fire Signs- Leo, Sagittarius and Aries.
Prior to the beginning of the Revolutionary War, there was a Great Conjunction in 1762 in the early degrees of Aries, in which Uranus also conjoined with Jupiter and Saturn. The lead-up period to the Revolutionary war is generally considered to begin in 1763.
The next Great Conjunction happened in 1782, with Jupiter and Saturn in the final degrees of Sagittarius as Uranus was in the final degrees of Gemini in opposition to the Great Conjunction. The Revolutionary War officially ended in 1783, not long after the Great Conjunction. The final decans of Sagittarius and of Gemini are both ruled by Saturn and the Sun, and both are strongly linked to the death or usurpation of Kings.
These dates show that this particular period of the Great Conjunctions- 1762-1783- basically bracketed the events leading to the birth of the US and the end of the Revolutionary War.
The beginning of the American Revolutionary War timed almost exactly to the Uranus ingress. April 19, 1775 was the beginning of the Revolution, and Uranus had entered Gemini only days earlier. Most astrologers point to the Sibley chart for the founding of the United States for July 4, 1776, which of course was the Declaration of Independence, but few seem to look to the chart of the beginning of the Revolutionary War. The Revolutionary War began as Mars conjoined the fixed star Regulus in the late degrees of Leo. Regulus is the Royal Star, the star of great power and fame, and Mars brings conflict, usurpation and negation to the King. And, again, Mars is esoterically linked to birth.
The next 2 Uranus returns in US history (1860, 1942) were in the Earth Era- Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo, and the current Uranus return (2025) happens shortly after the beginning of the Air Era- Libra, Aquarius and Gemini.
The Neptune cycle is approximately double the length of the Uranus cycle, so we will find that Neptune is in either Virgo or Libra (the revolutionary era and the second world war), or Pisces or Aries (the Civil War era and the present era) at the time of Uranus’ tenure in Gemini. Neptune adds myth-making, corrosion, drug-addled delusion, semiotics and deep-seated ancestral trauma. At all of these Uranus ingresses, Neptune is hovering around the equinoctial points on the zodiac, which are some of the most unstable decans of the zodiac, dealing with the death and rebirth of the Dionysian archetype: Osiris, Persephone, Zagreus and many others.
Pluto also recently returned to Aquarius, where it was when the nation was founded. Pluto is a chthonic deity linked to wealth, ownership and exploitation of land and resources; Aquarius is a Saturn-ruled territory named for the Water Bearer, Ganymede. Ganymede is the boy servant of the Sky God, a correlate to Saturn in the story of Uranus. The associations of rebellion and overturning dominant paradigms with Aquarius are actually sourced from this esoteric meaning.
GEMINI, FIXED STARS AND THE MERCURIAL ARCHETYPE
It is also important to remember that there are very powerful fixed stars in tropical Gemini, specifically the Pleiades which currently is at 29 Taurus through about 1 degree Gemini; Aldebaran at about 9 degrees Gemini: Capella at 21 degrees Gemini, and several others. Uranus was conjoining the Pleiades at the beginning of the Revolutionary War and when the US entered the Second World War, and the Hindu tradition associated these stars with the War God Kartikeya. In the Greek tradition, these stars are named for the goddess Pleione’s daughters, and are associated with tears and mourning- the result of war and violence.
At the time of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Uranus was loosely conjoining Aldebaran. Aldebaran is also known as the Red Eye of the Bull and is associated with ferocity, tenacity and overwhelming Martial force combining Mars’ and Jupiter’s energies.
Gemini is not particularly martial in traditional thinking. It is not ruled by Mars, but Tropical Gemini does host these martial fixed stars. Gemini is ruled by Mercury, a god of consciousness, language, communication, writing, business, technical and scientific endeavors. Mercury has a role to play in the technical and information aspects of war, and increasingly, psychological operations are perhaps the most important part of war.
The syncretic Germanic/ Norse equivalent of Mercury is Odin or Wodan/ Votan, who was the primary god of war for most of history for Norse and Germanic people. Unlike Mercury, Odin was connected to the frenzy of war, specifically the Berserk state, a shamanic warrior archetype that most likely was a drug cult.
Gemini is known for instability and fickleness. It is represented by the twins, Castor and Pollux (now in tropical Cancer); splitting and division are central themes for Gemini. Exploration of polarity, pushing and testing boundaries, reduction and definition are central to Gemini’s deeper meanings. The tension between the embodiment or animal nature of the human and our spiritual aspirations represents a larger theme of the Gemini/ Sagittarius axis on the zodiac.
FATALISM AND STELLAR PROPHECY
As mentioned earlier, the Uranus myth is an allusion to an extremely ancient Sky God/ Earth Mother cult that persists to this day in our collective memory, simmering beneath the surface and serving as the unconscious basis for all religion- despite the most vehement
denial by those who subscribe to these religious traditions.
The fact that the planet with the name Uranus is so strongly associated with the founding of the US, and with the most seminal events in its history, begs the deeper examination of these events and the revelation of the true esoteric nature of the Uranus story.
Even if we embrace the most fatalistic conception of the stellar prophecy around Uranus in Gemini, we need to remember that the world remains economically and militarily dominated by the US: a significant portion of the American public has been entrained to believe that this is a horrible thing, a continuation of centuries-old colonialism.
It is not that simple.
Many astrologers are expressing their own unconscious guilt for what they have been indoctrinated to believe is an evil, racist and exploitative country, hoping for its dissolution.
This does not constitute an endorsement on my behalf of the very real carnage and exploitation the US has repeatedly committed over the course of the last 84 years, especially since WWII, and even prior to that. The US was a largely isolationist country prior to WWI, and remained mostly committed to that path until WWII.
Since the US entrance into WWI, at least, US foreign policy has largely been driven not by actual American national interests, but by the agendas of a cabal of intelligence agencies, international banking, arms dealers and the secret societies that permeate the halls of power. Some of these things have enhanced the US status economically, some have undermined it, but it has definitely placed the US in the role of Global Enforcer. The major media has worked tirelessly to cheerlead disastrous foreign policy and domestic agendas that have left a wake of confusion and division within and without the US.
The neoliberal/ neoconservative death grip on US foreign policy for 20-plus years (Clinton, Bush, Obama, Biden and Trump to the extent that he doesn’t seem to fully understand how to end it) has caused serious damage to the US brand domestically and abroad. The ridiculously prolonged war in Afghanistan and the Iraq war were unnecessary and tragically mismanaged.
If the US is destined to get itself involved in a full-blown international war or a domestic separation (something larger than the perpetual regional simmering conflicts that pop up regularly and virtually never end), it is clear that a weakened, corrupted and feminized US presence in the world, operating through USAID-style psychological operations and color revolutions, economic manipulation and regime change tactics, would only make the outcomes far worse.
The world as we know it operates as an esoteric Empire, below our conscious understanding of political realities. This Empire is conceived of through a divine right of rulership, and this goes back to the Uranus myth and the usurpation of power by Saturn: there is a mythic tradition of dynastic succession from Uranus to Saturn, from Saturn to Jupiter, and from Jupiter to Zagreus, the baby Dionysus. Some believe that Zagreus was the occulted name for Christ.
The current talk of a return to a “Golden Age” speaks directly of the Age of Saturn.
