Full Moon in Scorpio will be peaking at around 1 pm EDT on Monday, May 12, with the Moon at 22 degrees Scorpio, and the Sun at 22 degrees Taurus applying to a conjunction with Uranus at 26 degrees.
The ascendant of this chart will be almost exactly conjunct Regulus in the first degree of Virgo, the Royal fixed star unequivocally linked to Aristocracy and extraordinary Fame.
The lunation cycle in Taurus season is always somewhat bittersweet, with the Exalted Moon conjoining the Sun in Taurus- a sweet and sensual synod immersed in the nurturance of material well being, labors of love that lead in time to the enjoyment of wealth (or not, if the work and planning is inadequate).
The Full Moon opposition is in the Moon’s sign of Fall, Scorpio, where the Moon experiences a deeply fraught psychological journey through the emptiness of unfulfilled desire, memories of lost innocence and unrequited love, envisioning future ventures into these melancholy territories. Scorpio’s ruler, Mars, is demonstrative and brash in Leo, separating from a tense opposition with Pluto in Aquarius.

The Sun will be applying to a conjunction with Uranus, which has been hovering in this final decan of Taurus for nearly a year. This is a decan ruled by Saturn by triplicity, and also by Saturn in the Chaldean order.

Taurus is an earth sign, and the nature of earth is heavy and pressurized. In this extroverted and expansive time of year, Saturn brings our attention to the potential for unforeseen disaster- flood, fire, war, drought, illness, late season frost, blight, plagues of locusts- all things that might undo all our hard travails and destroy the young seedlings as they present immense vegetative growth and flower. Saturn is the force that destroys the young, he return all things to the Mother- so this is the home of apotropaic magic and practices. And, also of insurance, hedging one’s bets against the worst outcomes.
Another dark and primal feminine archetype sits in this territory conjoining Uranus, and that is Algol. She is Medusa, a term that in ancient Greek referred to a group of young Amazon Priestesses, their matron was Athena herself. This group was notorious for the extreme use of pharmakaia, especially (but not limited to) snake venom. The Amazonian warrior was one of the earliest transhuman experiments we know of: her androgynous athletic physical presentation was the result of ritual pharmacological intervention at a young age, with hormone-altering poisons applied through cutting the skin.
Uranus was the primordial Sky God whose dynamic relations with Gaia brought this world into creation. As the Sun conjoins Uranus the untainted, uncompromising mythic masculine nature of the Sun as progenitor and prime mover comes into focus: it is downstream from this that we get authenticity and radicalness.
Scorpio is the fixed water flowing through narrow channels: the mythical Scorpion King of Egypt was represented in ancient reliefs performing irrigation, a sacred and symbolic act. In a Tree of Life reading of the zodiac, Scorpio is when the Life Force is returning to the Root of the Tree, and that descending water must be purified, for any toxins reaching the Root could kill the Tree. Any problems or impurities must be confronted, including and especially the internal psychic ones. Scorpio is associated with pipes (sexual organs) and the alchemy of poison, lust, sex and power.
Taurus, in this Tree of Life interpretation, is the opposite: fixed earth stabilizes the upward movement of Life Force which has already emerged into the fertile world, and now moves into flowering and pollen release. The incredible proliferation of vegetative life in this territory shows awesome power, but the sustained fruiting of many plants is quite fragile- hence the Lunar and Venusian cultivating and parenting influence in Taurus.
This lunation promises more revelations about sex scandals and the ultra rich and famous; for those of us not in the limelight, we must not allow any of that to distract from the caring cultivation of sources of material wealth. There remains an incredible powder keg both in the international political milieu and in the profoundly polarized worlds of average people. The epoch of Air is revealing itself to be exactly as promised: exciting, cerebral and unstable.
